Indy Gateway broke ground on its first private contractor partnership new home build on March 5. The first house, which is approximately 1,500 square feet, will be built in the Drexel Gardens neighborhood. Indy Gateway plans to build two more homes this year. The second house will also be in Drexel Gardens, and the third home will be located just off West Washington Street in the Rhoades Elementary neighborhood.
The private contractor partnership began in March 2018 with the rehab of two houses near the West Washington Street corridor. The first houses, which were bought through ReNew Indy and listed on the Marion County Tax Sale list, were transformed and sold to qualified homebuyers and are now tax-generating properties that benefit our local entities and improve the neighborhood. The houses are in federally designated low- and moderate-income areas and were made possible through the assistance Central Indiana Community Foundation and MIBOR REALTORĀ® Association grant funds.
