As they wrap up construction of a house at 5139 Melrose Avenue, students in the construction trades program at Ben Davis High School’s Area 31 Career Center began work on a second home right next door during the 2017-18 school year. Partners, sponsors, and neighbors were invited to the kickoff of construction on this second home in the Drexel Gardens neighborhood in September. Speakers included Indy Gateway President Rick Proctor, Drexel Gardens Crime Watch President Ramona Ward, and MSD of Wayne Township Superintendent Jeff Butts. Students working on the house and their instructors were available to answer questions about the project. Sponsors of this house include Fed Ex, Kroger, Lowes, B&W Plumbing, ProBuild, and Spectrum Janitorial Supply. – September 2017
